His family told the Associated Press that Dorough died Monday at his home in Mount Bethel, PA, but did not give a cause.

He also wrote the song "Devil May Care", which jazz great Miles Davis recorded as an instrumental version.

Bob Dorough, whose career began as a composer, arranger and singer in the booming NY jazz scene of the '50s and '60s before he became the musical keystone of Schoolhouse Rock!

The 94 year old musician got his start in the NY jazz scene of the 1950s and '60s, but may be best known for his work for the educational cartoon series "Schoolhouse Rock!".

Born in Arkansas, Dorough was able to make a living as a pianist and composer from the time he moved to NY in 1949.

Nashville shooting suspect held; he once tried to meet President Trump
Authorities announced on Twitter that they have arrested 29-year-old Travis Reinking who was taken into custody on Monday. Reinking was arrested at the White House in July 2017, when he entered a restricted area of the presidential grounds.

We invite you to share condolences for Bob Dorough in our Guest Book. He wrote all of the Multiplication Rock series (including "Three is a Magic Number", famously sampled by De La Soul), and Grammar Rock classics "Conjunction Junction" and "Lolly, Lolly Lolly, Get Your Adverbs Here", as well as songs for America Rock, Science Rock, Money Rock, and Earth Rock.

While working a day job at an advertising company in 1971, Dorough's boss asked him to set multiplication tables to music and he penned the song "Three Is a Magic Number". That concept became the song "Three Is a Magic Number" and the project would become the Grammy-nominated Multiplication Rock. It was revived from 1993 to 1999.

"Schoolhouse Rock" first premiered in 1973 and ran on ABC for 12 years.

Dorough himself continued to play live for the rest of his life - at 92, Dorough performed "Devil May Care" for member station WBGO - and as recently as three weeks ago in upstate NY.
