  • Police Deny Late Arrival Allegations At Fatal Shooting Scene Of Dr Fadi

He was moved from Gaza to the West Bank for treatment before being admitted to an Israeli hospital due to his critical condition. Ahmad Abu Hussein, died in the hospital, "Sheba" in tel Hashomer.

The body of al-Batsh was taken from a morgue to a mosque in Kuala Lumpur for prayers on Wednesday, ahead of repatriation to Gaza where al-Batsh will be buried.

Hussein was working for "Voice of People" - a radio station linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

Photos and amateur video from the scene show him far from the border and wearing a blue jacket and helmet marked "TV" when he was shot.

Abu Hussein was shot by Israeli occupation forces in the stomach while covering protests near Jabalia in northern Gaza, the health ministry in Gaza said. The army did not comment on what their specific plans might have been.

Israel has always been suspected of involvement in a series of assassination attempts on the lives of Hamas commanders, many of them outside of Gaza and the West Bank. His family has denied the claim. Murtaja had recently been hired by a Norwegian advocacy group and had also been screened by the USA government before his company received a USAID grant. After his death, the Israeli military said it does not intentionally target journalists and that it would look into the circumstances of the shooting.

The protests began in late March and are set to continue until at least May 15, the day Palestinians mourn Israel's creation.

The deaths have led to calls for investigation from the United Nations, European Union and others but these have been rejected by Israel.

Israel says it has been warning Gazans not to approach the border fence and that it is doing what is necessary to stop the barrier from being damaged or breached.

The return march protests are calling for Palestinians to be allowed to return to their historic homes, from which they were forced to flee amid mass expulsions surrounding the creation of Israel.
